I assume academic libraries for schools with fashion design programs, like FIT, currently have such collections, but all libraries should.

I've lived in NYC for the whole 46 years of my life and never heard anyone just say "Stand." Even by folks who have worked there. When I was growing up they also had an annex further downtown, and even that I believe was referred to as "the Strand Annex." I would ask them.

Even Strand uses "the Strand" when writing about themself. I don't expect to change how you feel, but it is not just a tourist thing.
