Delighted to be starting work for @vch-home.bsky.social in Herefordshire on #Ledbury with Alastair Ayton. Looking forward to seeing what this gorgeous place has in store for us. 😁

A sketch that the artist, Salina Gani, created as I described a story I had researched. Part of a Digital Storytelling Workshop where I am having fun, but not being very productive (due to my own tech issues 😅).

This morning from the site of Bottreaux castle, Cornwall before the rain.

Boscastle this evening walking back from a shanty festival. 😁

At Boscastle, Cornwall, home of a Witchcraft Museum.

Had an amazing day at the Courtauld Gallery followed by @cathamclarke.bsky.social giving a lecture on ‘radical’ popular history @ihr.bsky.social What a combination!

Currently obsessed with an unpublished 17th century account of ghost riders I found in a manuscript. Desperately want to blog about it but have so much work I should be doing. 😭

Good morning from wet & windy Cornwall a few years from the Museum of Witchcraft 🧙‍♀️

Jackie & I out for a walk in Cornwall. She’s now curled up on my lap in the pub.

Been at the @gladlib.bsky.social this week to get work done on my #JohnAubrey book. This place is so conducive to writing. I feel a million miles from my normal life and all its distractions.

It is #WorldMentalHealthDay.
A good time to reflect on the importance of mental health so often underrated & not prioritised to our cost. Have a great day everyone!!

My history of Langley Burrell, Wilts was recently launched here at Langley House (yes, by the pool). It was fun.
One story it contains is the shenanigans that took place at the previous house 🫣
#oneplacewednesday
Thanks to @vchlondon.bsky.social & local PC! 😀

Going through old photos after a family funeral. This is my grandmother. I’ve never seen it before. She died when I was young.

'The tower is of brick and of very unsightly appearance, without one architectural feature..Nothing short of covering it with flint, adding buttresses, a proper parapet and pinnacles, and belfry windows with the necessary stonework would make a satisfactory work of it,' Architects rep., 1866.' Fair?

Memorial to Joan Whytte #witch ‘no longer abused’ and very definitely not forgotten in the woods above #Boscastle #Cornwall.

Incredibly tough week ahead but here, at this moment, all is well.

Gorgeous church, but usually locked. However open next Saturday if you are about. Not sure about the toilets 😁

Excited for the launch of my book on #LangleyBurrell at the Langley House. May not mention the c17 orgies at the old Manor House 🫢. According to Aubrey ‘the bacchanalia of the Romans were not more licentious’. 🫢🫢🫣

Rev Brindley of Kellaways, Wilts was ahead of his time. In 1799, he instituted an annual sermon against animal cruelty 🐶. Sermons were given in Bath, Bristol & places ‘where a lecture on the subject might be expected to do good.' His legacy ensured it continued after his death🐱. #OneplaceWednesday

Walked to the Bear at Bisley, Glos once casted as a house of #witches in a BBC drama. It looked pretty magical too, but was unfortunately closed this evening ☹️
The walk was gorgeous though.

Only managed a 3rd in the Strawberry Jam class but some nice comments from the judge at the flower show & fete. The dogs ‘musical sits’ class was hilarious.

Preparing for the local Flower Show. Here are my jams. I’ve tried to do the labels for about 30 minutes but my writing is not great. Presentation is important unfortunately.
Two generations of the family this year entering rather than usual three. It’s been a tough year.

On a field trip. Here is the church at #WestGrimstead. I find the c18 tower a bit foreboding.
August 20, 2025 at 1:57 PM
On a @vchlondon.bsky.social field trip to my next @wiltshistory.bsky.social parish #Grimstead. Here at East Grimstead the church, old chapel & pub. And the site of the maypole which fell in 1885 and no one could be bothered to put up again.

Got to admire a town with a big monument to a female poet, 16c wall paintings in the town hall & a Norman doorway on the parish church. #Ledbury #Hereford
