🔭🧪🎢 Hard to believe, but I’ve been doing research with teachers at IPAC for 20 years. All these fabulous people I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to know!!

Nice summary of the mess at Chicago
the crisis in which the University of Chicago is now engulfed -- one entirely of its own making, and which has led to the (hopefully temporary) suspension of admissions into numerous PhD programs in the humanities -- represents I think a seismic event in the history of American higher education

Unpopular opinion (maybe I am just grumpy?): your last slide, which you leave up during your questions, should NOT be a content-free "thanks!" but instead your conclusions slide. Leave that puppy up for slower consideration, don't wipe it from the screen for a one-word slide. 😠 🔭🧪

really interesting. this is the most interesting use of AL/LLMs in research that i've seen.
Fascinating and also depressing from @jenlucpiquant.bsky.social on a new study about why social media makes us all so miserable.

It's not just the algorithm, it's the way we as people interact with it.

Hell is other people.

As I wrote in @thehill.com, federal science funding isn’t just about labs, it’s about livelihoods. Cuts to NIH, NSF & NASA mean lost jobs today, stalled discovery tomorrow, and fewer opportunities for the next generation. When we invest in research, we are investing in workers and communities. ⬇️

OK, this is wild.

In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them.

It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*.

What the HELL?

This is me, wearing my IRSA hat. There are ... a LOT of videos showing how to use our web-based services to get data. I have updated a bunch. There are a bunch still to go! Check out the updated videos in this thread to see all the latest features. More videos coming as I can get to them. 🔭🧪🎢
I am 'freshening up' my rather large collection of screencapture videos for the Firefly-based IRSA tools. This is the root post for a whole series of updated videos that I'll thread together.
They are in HD with English subtitles (click on the 'cc' button in the lower right of your YouTube window).
