Middle schoolers’ castle projects for social studies class. They were only allowed to use recycled materials (‘cause I ain’t rich!) and they turned out beautifully! #edusky #teachsky #middleschool #teacher #education

I’m trying something because the thought of my students feeling provided for in my classroom is worth it:

I need help. Times are tough & budget cuts are real. If you are able to help support my classroom, here is our Amazon Wish List. Thank you. ♥️ #edusky #booksky

Oh, man. I cried as I read through this emotional memoir by a twin child survivor of Auschwitz. I highly recommend this first-person true story of Eva and her twin Miriam, and the horrors they (and countless others) endured during one of history’s darkest periods.

Mark Lanegan’s (RIP) work is an incredibly poetic and personal read.
His recollections of the Seattle grunge scene are both nostalgic & captivating. His descriptive admissions of his addictions and other struggles are emotional and honest.
I highly recommend his memoir! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The best! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A riveting & entertaining oral history of ‘80s hard rock.
References to the Sunset Strip heyday, rock icon stories, hilarity, & insight.
Includes interviews from Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, & Poison, to name only a few. Relive the most glorious musical era page by page. #booksky #musicsky

Students have decorated my classroom with their takes on Renaissance creations. I have such artistic and talented students!

Middle school “Comprehension Illustrations” in Literacy class. Literacy isn’t just reading & writing; it also involves listening, interpreting, & communicating in various modes.
Students drew scenes from my reading of Ray Bradbury’s “A Sound of Thunder”. No writing allowed this day. #Edusky

Yes, another rockstar memoir. Pick it up whether you like McKagan or not. It includes wild years with GnR, addiction, near-death experiences, love, loss, success, failure, and redemption. His voice is pure & honest. It’s an easy read, and leaves you feeling satiated. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #booksky

Another easy and entertaining read, yet a quite different narrative than my previous post (Adler’s book) and my next post (Duff’s memoir). ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
Pearcy’s story is descriptive, with its fair share of funny memories and crass ‘80s anecdotes. Check it out for a Gen X trip down memory lane. #booksky

This was an easy read, and I enjoyed it. If you’re a fan of GnR and/or Adler himself, check it out. As far as musician (auto)biographies go, I’d recommend it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sometimes I need a break from True Crime and SciFi; there’s more where this came from. #booksky

Students are making board games to show their learning of our latest unit. I can’t believe how fun they think “games from the 1900s” are. 🙄 😂
Instead of using game pieces from my old 80s games I brought in, one group made pieces in their own likenesses. Awesome!

Middle school students’ Renaissance designs that were made ONLY from supplies they already had access to from my classroom cupboards.
Here is a telescope (with glass!) looking at the moon, and a bit of an ornithopter that I accidentally cut out of the pic. #edusky

Middle Ages weaponry assignment: build a weapon, reenact a siege in costume via 5 minute video, or write a research paper detailing all five weapons we studied in class.
Here is a grade 8 student’s model of a battering ram, before she painted it. She also built a metre-high trebuchet. #edusky

Awesome historical fiction that gives readers a glimpse of the horrifying conditions and abuses that occurred in institutions in the ‘50s and ‘60s. While a little too graphic for my classroom’s “Book Nook”, I’ve lent it out numerous times to colleagues & friends. Four resounding stars! ⭐️ #booksky

Recommended by a grade 9 social studies student: four stars! ⭐️ Although older, it might be a worthy cross-over novel in my English classes as a discussion tool for human intervention and ethics in history. #edusky #booksky

Students completed our French Revolution unit with either a comprehensive essay, a dramatic recreation video, or a visual build accompanied by a speech about why this unit is still relevant.
Here is the guillotine that was paired with the best speech I’ve heard in 24 years of teaching. #edusky

I read this one in Uni back in the ‘90s. Five stars, folks. ⭐️ I make sure there are a few copies in my classroom’s “Book Nook” every year. #booksky

Coloured markers are coveted at my school, sure. But my new “80s Glam” gift from a student just levelled up the sharpie game. #Edusky

Student assignment: Exploring conflict in Hamlet, 1200 word essay.
One essay came with some Lego scenes that were footnoted. Well played, sir.

Student said he couldn’t write his in-class essay because he cut his finger. It “really hurts” and “here’s a note from my mom”.
I gave him a laptop, told him a 60 second story of Rick Allen, and reminded him there’s only 53 minutes left in class now. He earned a B+.
Motivate, don’t mollycoddle.
