Postdoc in the Lowell lab @harvardmed.bsky.social studying how the hypothalamus and brainstem regulate feeding, and what goes wrong when they don't. Dr. rer. nat. from @mdc-berlin.bsky.social.
Definitely confusing. Did you ever reach out to the first author or PI? Would be curious to see what they say

Super grateful to Brad for all the support, to @walkersamuelj.bsky.social for introducing me to the wonderful worlds of systems neuroscience and feeding regulation, to @amdouglass.bsky.social for always pointing me in the right direction, and all the other co-authors for their contributions!

We discovered an excitatory PVH-Sim2→ARC-AgRP circuit whereby the PVH excites ARC-AgRP neurons in response to the unexpected unavailability of food. This genetically specified circuit is essential for normal energy balance and enables the brain to predict and prevent deviations from homeostasis.

ARC-AgRP "hunger" neurons were found, very unexpectedly, to be inhibited by cognitively-processed sensory cues that anticipate ingestion of food. In this work, we asked are ARC-AgRP neurons also regulated by cues that signal the absence of food and thus able to predict future energy deficit?

Not sure if I've ever read a critical piece, but I've definitely heard it 😅

Not exactly the same but you might try using AAV-TeNT that blocks synaptic vesicle fusion ("silencing" the infected neuron)

The mission of the NIMHD is "to lead scientific research in humans to improve minority health and reduce health disparities in the United States and its territories."

Let me put this as delicately as possible:

Fuck off, you white supremacist asshole
