Honestly, a LOT of 90s to 2000s American (AND European) VG adverts are just flat-out unhinged. Cases in point:
An American magazine ad for Namco's PlayStation 1 port of "Point Blank", advertising both the game and Namco's lightgun perhipheral "GunCon" with the following unhinged tagline: "More fun than shooting your neighbour's cat." The rest of the advert on the right-side reads as follows: "Point Blank by Namco Get Trigger Happy Bang! Meow! Bang! Meow! Come on already. It's time you moved up the food chain and take aim at something that sounds better when it explodes. And you can when you grab your gun, included free with Point Blank, the newest arcade shooting sensation from Namco that'll have you firing 'till your fingers come off. Get trigger happy at your next party with over 70 loony shooting scenarios as everything from piranhas and vultures to chickens and octopi fall to the wayside. Look, the directions are easy: if it's bigger than a pixel, shoot it. Great Party Game! Up To Eight Players!" A European (presumably UK) magazine advert for SEGA's port of their 3D arcade fighter, Virtua Fighter, on their infamous 32X add-on for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The advert is of a painted illustration of a quintessential white family duo of a middle-aged father with glasses and a young blond boy with a striped short-sleeved shirt happily playing Virua Fighter on their Mega Drive and 32X console in a blue-walled, red-caprted living room, with the television screen in the middle showing the two chosen characters in the two's session of VF, both of them being the fighter Lau, engaged in fisticuffs. Above this illustrated picture, hangs two words in a red and crooked font: "Domestic Violence".
