I'll go further. If you don't care about the Oscars, that's totally fine. But if you care about movies and moviemaking, you shouldn't insist on their meaninglessness. They have had many meanings through the decades, and studying them is a fascinating door into the history of an art and a business.
Of course there is the corollary: "THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN THE OSCARS."
a.) Yes!
b.) Caring about something fundamentally unimportant is vital, no matter how dark things become.
c.) We need art and conversations around it! The Oscars, though very silly, start those conversations.
Love when people's rebuttal to any Oscar talk is "NO ONE WILL REMEMBER THESE MOVIES IN A CENTURY." So? The job of the Oscars -- or any critic, really -- isn't to predict the future. A handful of movies will be remembered by time. The vast majority will be forgotten. It's how it works.

Trump hated TikTok (because China) until it helped him win an election (as even he acknowledges) and now he’s going to save it and take a victory lap. So he’ll have X, TikTok, Insta, and Facebook all working on his behalf. That’s a big difference between now and 2017.

Stuff like this is just ridiculous...we have 4 years of this lunacy.
CNN: Well, the way Trump pitches it is that when it comes to Greenland for example, it's for national security purposes. Is there any credence to that statement?

REP. JIM HIMES: No. It's bananas. It's insane.

I listen to this podcast called NBP Next Best Picture and let me tell you it is excellent! I love it very much. I think it's time for me to start critiquing more of the television shows and movies that I watch because I watch a lot of them and I'm not afraid to share my opinions of what I've watched

Happy New Year folks! 2025 is going to be the best year that I have ever had! I am going to Nigeria, Japan, and the Dominican Republic this year. This year I am going to lose weight and my husband will come back to the United States with me. I am extraordinarily excited for the year to come. 🙏🏽

@paultassi.bsky.social I read your review of Squid Game in Forbes. If you watch Korean dramas they usually have 16 hour long episodes so I am not sure why they would cut it in the middle of the season. It's giving more like a limited series. I am too excited for Season 3!!!
