St John’s Methodist & United Reform Church Memorial, Stone, Staffordshire. The church is now apartments and the memorial is on display at Walton Priory Middle School. Many of the soldiers commemorated on the memorial lived in the nearby terraces and were employed by Bostock’s, shoe manufacturers.

Some wonderful old features if you turn your eyes skywards. Most have some age, others a bit more modern.

Turnover bridge,Meaford, Staffordshire, Trent and Mersey Canal. The horse towing the boat could cross from one side of the canal to the other without having to unhitch the tow rope. You can see and touch history here as the rope has worn grooves into the stonework over the years.

I was fortunate to become custodian of a couple of wonderful local history artifacts. A tobacco jar. “In the better circles, the tobacco jar is not only practical, but mainly intended to impress and of course to display hospitality” and a drinks flask. The jar bears a wonderful inscription.
