This week in our homeschool, we’re diving into Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz’s book, An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States for Young People. SUCH a great book so far, and written with a kid/teen’s understanding in mind.

If this doesn’t get you excited about women in horror, I don’t know what will. This film is so gorgeous. Look out for my review from Horror Movie Blog soon.

Still from Mārama (2025): a Māori gothic story, written and directed by Taratoa Stappard. Watched for Imagine Film Festival.

The ignorance continues. The Black horror subgenre exists because it’s so little of it. It’s why we talk about it so much, hoping studios and producers will dispel barriers for Black filmmakers, writers, creators so more of our stories are made. And all Black horror isn’t an allegory for white ppl.

I sat down with my dad to interview him, get some insight into his life and the legacy he’s built in his lifetime and I learned so much about his work as an activist. It’s my hope to do more to tell his story.

Finally finished this book! It sat on my shelf for a couple years. Delicious Monsters was unsettling and scary at times but also so on point with the struggles Black girls face growing into their own. Perfect read to kick off my Fall reads.

The Cramps: A Period Piece (filmed on 35mm) is about a young woman being terrorized by her period. Inspired by the director’s own experience with endometriosis, the film takes us on a fun and hilarious ride. The wardrobe was 🔥 #fantasticfest

No morning screenings for me today. Just getting some writing done and putting out content.

The secret screening tonight was #Bugonia, dir by Yorgos Lanthimos. It’s now my favorite Lanthimos film to date. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are dynamic on screen together. Aidan Delbis is just as amazing. Definitely one of my favorites of #fantasticfest

Crazy Old Woman (Vieja Loca) is disturbing, yet SO amazing. Carmen Maura is creepy yet exquisite as Alicia. Brilliant writing, haunting sound design, and an incredible score. Rooted in Argentinian history, this is a devastating story.

NIGHT STAGE is a gripping, erotic thriller. Directors Filipe Matzembacher & Marcio Reolon, treat their characters with care. It feels like a step back in time, yet the struggles these men face are very present. claps for how beautiful Matias (Gabriel Faryas) is in every frame.
