for context I started kindergarten wars to fill the hole in my heart left in between SxF updates and while I don’t think it does exactly that, I still really enjoy it! It’s very funny and well done, just less grounded than spy family

—with a peek into each new antagonist, monster of the week style. It’s interesting, it’s emotional, and it HAS made me cry but I don’t think it dives as deep as what spy family actually has to deliver as far as a meaningful story goes

The kids are also mostly nameless and don’t have many defining characteristics besides Layla, and she doesn’t currently seem to have much of a personality either (I’m not caught up though so could be wrong) the story instead focuses on the teachers and their relationships

I love kindergarten wars as well, but it’s a much more lighthearted story. Which is ironic because of the sheer amount of death in it compared to sxf but the comedy is played differently and most of the people who die are nameless bodyguard types

If the critique of sxf is that it doesn’t have enough action (it does have quite a bit though??), then yeah! Kindergarten wars is probably better suited to your tastes, but don’t do spy family like that. I think it’s leagues ahead storytelling/character wise

There’s more to sxf than that though, the story explores politics and war and the backgrounds behind each of the incredibly varied characters. It’s a slow burn, it’s more realistic, it’s taking its time to build up some really interesting storylines that you have to stick with to see the payoff

Sure there isn’t an insane amount of action, but the tension caused by the secret identities does more than enough to justify the spy and assassin roles, especially in recent chapters.
