If you're a transsexual person The new law could help you if: • you've changed your sex • you're in the process of changing your sex, or • you have simply told someone that you are planning to change your sex. Under the new law, you'll no longer have to be under medical supervision to be protected from discrimination and harassment. You mustn't be discriminated against or harassed at school or by someone exercising a public function, such as policing, because you've started the process of changing your sex. You'll also be protected from direct discrimination as a result of being associated with someone who is transsexual, for example if you're their partner; or if you are discriminated against by someone because they think you are a transsexual, even if you aren't. In addition, you'll also be protected from indirect discrimination, where a rule, policy or practice particularly disadvantages transsexual people and can't be justified, and from discrimination as a guest or member in a private club.

A surpassingly odd book about the war between insects and electricity (yep) which I half read many years ago and abandoned when moving house. Prohibitively expensive to replace but finally found a copy for a quid in the “charity book dump” of a medieval museum.

BACKGROUND In 2024, support was needed to analyse responses to a major Public Sector Consultation. To support this effort, Critical Research were commissioned to deliver key aspects of the analysis. However, the consultation drew an overwhelming response-more than 60,000 responses across all questions, far exceeding initial expectations and creating a significant challenge for analysis. HUMAN & AI BLENDED APPROACH A tailored solution that used Al to identify themes and categorise responses, significantly improving speed and quality. 1. FRAMEWORK DEVELOPMENT The Client provided draft code frames for each question that needed to be analysed. SurveyMind then used its technology to test the robustness of these codes using a sample of the responses. SurveyMind then delivered a refined code-frame that better fit the responses. 2. AI POWERED PROCESSING Once there was an agreed code frame. SurveyMind's qualitative analysis Al engine automated the sorting of responses according to the agreed categories. This eliminated the need for manual categorisation, dramatically accelerating the speed of the analysis. Faced with the challenge of analysing tens of thousands of qualitative responses within a tight deadline and budget, Critical Research sought innovative solutions. They explored how automation could streamline the process, cut costs, and uphold the highest quality standards. To achieve this, they got in touch with SurveyMind, who are specialists in the application of Al to large-scale qualitative research. 3. HUMAN QUALITY ASSURANCE To ensure that the results were reliable and met high standards, SurveyMind implemented a comprehensive human quality assurance process. The team reviewed the categorised responses and addressed any discrepancies. 4. SENSE-MAKING Once the categorisation was complete, Critical Research conducted further in- depth analysis, extracting actionable insights from the data that would guide decision-making.
