How do we move beyond quick recall and build real fluency in maths?
At a recent @mathsnoproblem.bsky.social PD Pop Up, we explored how fluency grows through flexibility and understanding.
Rachel Walters and I share more in this blog.
Math Fluency Explained: Why Problem-Solving Is the Key
Fluency isn’t just speed — it’s about flexibility, reasoning, and problem-solving. Explore how to develop deep mathematical proficiency.

We’re up and running with the CPD Extravaganza. Stef Sullivan is helping us to explore how beginning maths teachers can be supported to develop a ‘way of being’ that enables them to be inquiring, resilient professionals. #cpdextravaganza

Been writing again. It feels good. Started with girls but moved to curriculum. Thinking about substack. Anyone got any advice?

We've collectively moved on from differentiation by prior attainment and now rightly have high expectations of all children.

Personalisation in maths isn’t about different worksheets; it’s about crafting tasks that allow all pupils to engage while offering opportunities for deeper thinking.

What a fantastic three days with teachers exploring how best to facilitate children’s mathematical creativity. My favourite quote and for me most indicative of our #mathsnoproblem schools is, ‘Even our low attainers do well on the reasoning paper’.

Choose any five consecutive positive whole numbers, and multiply them together. Did you get a multiple of 120? Will you always get a multiple of 120?

Hello friends old and new,
I'm responding to the Curriculum and Assessment Call for evidence. Can anyone share specific evidence on the impact of the MTC? I have opinions and material to support them but lack systematic evidence. Please repost and tag anyone who might help. Thanks!
