"Don't mind being lonely, so spare me the brimstone
Acting all holy, when you know I'm full of holes
Don't mind being lonely, don't need to be told
Stop acting so holy,
I know I'm full of holes, full of holes" - frightened rabbit
Did anyone ask him one simple question "how?"

If we want our students to be skeptical about LLM output, it's important, IMO, to demonstrate just how *badly* it gets things wrong. Especially in ways that are obvious to people with less than an hour's experience in doing that thing.

The Chat-GPT screenshot:

Cue: fairly substantial laughter from the class

And then they got to work in their groups pointing out many of the errors (nothing's labeled; if we assume these arrows are predation we're missing some obvious ones and have others here don't belong, etc)

I showed them how to map out interaction networks, and we worked a few examples -- first me demoing, then them doing it in small groups and me going over the answers.

Then I posted a slide with the title "At the start of the term, I asked Chat-GPT to make a food web. What did it get wrong?"
