Senior Policy Adviser at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Care, work and poverty. Also York. Views here my own.
JRF’s work on paternity leave (drawing on modelling from the @centrepropolicy.bsky.social) shows that there could be gains of £2.68billion as more women work and work more hours. Better paternity leave is good for families and the economy. www.jrf.org.uk/work/improvi...
Improving Statutory Paternity Leave would benefit families and the economy
More generous Statutory Paternity Leave would deliver on both household financial security and economic growth.

Great to see the Committee has recommended 6 weeks of paternity leave at 90% pay, to introduce support for self-employed fathers/partners for the first time and to offer paid leave fathers/partners who’ve just started a new job. All policy asks @jrf-uk.bsky.social made in our evidence.

The UK's paternity leave offer is pitiful and low income dads are locked out of enhanced support because their employers don't offer it or they're not entitled.

Self employed dads fare worst.
