There is just TOO MUCH ART in Florence. I could share so much amazing stuff. But instead I'll share this scruffy mutt, a detail from Il Poppi's Carità (which I'd translate as loving kindness). Being kind to dogs is an unusual addition to the normal Carità representation of a woman and children.

I've already read the book, but have a cat photo anyway. The cat-sitter is to blame for this 😹

Love these colourful mini houses at the end of gardens behind our apartment block in Italy.
Added pleasure that the left hand one has two huge cats with thick ginger fur, to make up for missing my cat at home.

Oxford people - you're needed again.
Peaceful counter-protest against the far right 'Oxford patriots' (nothing of the sort) on Sat 1st November 1:30pm Holiday Inn Express OX4 7FG.
This group harass refugees and are behind the intimidating flag-flying.

Cat-sitter has now got the cat watching himself on screen

Oxford people - unity march from Cowley to city centre to unite against racism and division. Assemble at Templars Square 12.30, Sunday 16 November. Joining points for those unable to march all the way: Manzil Way 1.30, University Church High St 2.15.

The two countrysides contrasted. An Angel of Security hovers over a well maintained, productive landscape, rich in crops, livestock and farmsteads. Opposite an Angel of Fear swoops over a wasteland, with crumbled buildings and marching soldiers.

Meanwhile in bad government people are arrested and killed, the countryside is laid waste, and the devil sits enthroned with justice bound and defeated at his feet. Remind you of anyone? #NoKings

Oh Siena. Back in my happy place to see the newly restored allegory of good government. The detail is glorious. People dancing and playing games, bootmakers selling their goods, builders repairing the roof. In bad government (still sadly poorly preserved) the buildings are full of holes.

Just your average hospital fresco.
In the entrance hall of Ospedale Santa Maria Nuova, founded in Florence in 1288, the oldest hospital in Italy still in operation.

Another of my favourite churches, the very ancient Santo Stefano in Bologna (known as the seven churches, all linked together).

Oxford - another protest against the far right. Assemble 12.30 tomorrow (Saturday) at Bonn Square. This time against 'Posie Parker's' so-called 'Let the women speak' group. They are saying men will try to silence their anti-trans views. Women needed to show them they don't speak for all women.

My cat-sitter has introduced the cat to Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and it turns out he is obsessed with Salem the witch-cat.

Church reflected.

Have a photo of my sister's new puppy to lift the mood. We're all besotted.

One of my favourite churches, Santa Maria della Spina in Pisa, by moonlight.

Today's the day. Celebrating 125 years of Gerontius at Sinfonia Smith Square, 40 years of the Elysian Singers, and 25 years as choir director for Sam Laughton. With my aunt's copy from 1948, previously owned by someone from Blackburn.

Of course one of the wonderful things about the NHS (as with the RNLI) is that they don't discriminate in their duty to rescue, and everyone has a right to care. But the BMA guidance does suggest staff can withdraw care if they are subject to abusive comments. www.bma.org.uk/media/5144/b...

It never ceases to amaze me how much crockery people used to throw away back in the days when our local nature reserve was a rubbish tip. This patch has recently been cleared of nettles to plant a more diverse lot of seeds

I just love this picture of Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood locked in a celebratory embrace at the end of their round yesterday. #RyderCup #TeamSpirit #Europe

These young blokes turned up at our asylum hotel protection demo in Oxford at the weekend in a pink limo and tried to join us with their nonsense fake placards to get a photo prank opportunity. Fortunately they didn't succeed and had to cross the road to be with the small anti-migrant group.
