Oh look, San Diego beat NYC to the punch on socialist grocery stores.
A federal courthouse in San Diego has set up an in-house food pantry to assist workers who are being required to work without pay until the end of the federal shutdown. A photo taken by an employee of the Federal District Court for the Southern District of California shows shelves stocked with snacks, canned goods and toilet paper at the Carter-Keep Courthouse. “Please don’t hesitate to take what you need for yourself and your family,” wrote John Morrill, the court’s clerk, in an email to employees. While federal judges are receiving their regular salaries, other courthouse staff deemed essential, including clerks, court reporters and some security officers, are required to continue working nationwide but not receiving their paychecks. In another email, Chief Judge Cynthia Ann Bashant told the district’s employees that the court was considering staying all civil trials and allowing court employees to ask for part-time furloughs so they could find outside work. “I have no idea how long this shutdown is going to last,” she wrote. “We value you all and appreciate your willingness to serve during these trying times.”

I'm at the point where I believe NYT editors simply *love* to use the most melodious adjective to describe something, rather than the most accurate.

"Outlandish" sounds nice, means "bizarre" or "unfamiliar".

It's the wrong adjective.

"Vile", "Horrific", "Gross".

That's what you're looking for
