I will never be as enthralled by anything as my cat is by this one Cat TV video

A big thank you to @michaelianblack.bsky.social for writing I'm Bored. It's one of my favorite picture books to read at storytime, even on days, like today, when I might prefer to be a potato.

There needs to be a word for the combination of admiration and revulsion I feel on learning that cellar spiders (like this one I just found) carry their egg sacks around in their mouths until they hatch.

I'm working today, but my daughter keeps texting me pictures of this huge wolf spider she found in the garage.

Watching the Owl House with my teenager, and this line struck me as strangely topical. (My daughter says that's why she's re-watching the show).

I was startled to see this agave plant looming over my backyard fence from next door and looking like the world's biggest asparagus.

Yesterday I made the rookie mistake of reading a book at storytime without previewing it all the way through. A parent recommended it, and the kids did enjoy guessing what the dog's nose would be on each page: a cloud, a tree, a cactus. But y'all, THE DOG NEVER FINDS HIS NOSE!

Just finished reading The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer. What a wild and compelling story. I couldn't put it down.

We have a tarantula named Penelope at the library where I work, and a notebook where people can write messages. A little girl wrote this today.

Never would have guessed that what I needed today was to go back in time 1.2 billion years and hang out with some red algae. I was not expecting such an informative book to be so beautifully written. Kudos to Riley Black.

Choosing books to put in our library "Outpost" is a funny challenge. It's one thing to judge a book by its cover, but in this case all people have to go on is the spine!

I don't write much poetry anymore, but I couldn't let this go unsaid.

This book (Wild Faith by Talia Lavin) is fascinating (and terrifying), and provides so much context for things I never understood, even though I was raised in the Bible Belt. Highly recommended.

Also, I am actually using a bookmark, like a grown-up.
