Kodaka stumbles upon Kifu's pride's lands in their travels, and its Kifu who discovers them. They hit it off, and continued to meet up over time. Ultimately Kodaka tries to coax Kifu into leaving her pride to be with them, but Kifu struggles with the decision to leave behind everything she knows.

Kodaka was born into a pride, but never fit in. They left to become a rogue as an adolescent, seeking to make their own way.

Kifu was born into a sheltered pride where she isn't really allowed to come into her own. She feels like something is missing.
