My assumption is something btwn their perception of "selling out" and the fact that fic by nature is easier to read bc you already know the universe and don't have to learn a new one and all new characters

The answer of me talking into the void and poking around being "people look down on this thing" made a lot of sense. But I'm still pondering on why fanfic readers get upset if their favorite fic writer chooses to write oc
