On August 29, 2005, #HurricaneKatrina made landfall on the United States Gulf Coast, more than 1,800 died, millions were displaced, and there were billions in damages. The Katrina Memorial site holds the remains of unclaimed and unidentified victims of the storm from the New Orleans area.

I found this postcard from the National Museum of African American History and Culture while cleaning out my desk. Marian Wright Edeman's words remain a powerful and poignant message in these times.

I love tnis photo: Betty Shabazz, Dorothy Height, Shirley Chisholm and opera singer Marian Anderson. On this International Women's Day, I salute them and the many women who fought, and continue to fight, on the frontlines in the struggle for freedom, justice and equality.

The Louisiana Children's Museum was packed today. After being in the house for nearly a week because of the historic snowstorm that hit New Orleans on Tuesday, kids were ready to let loose and play!
