Films would be their own thing, not expanding on existing media but drawing from existing for its own universal cocktail. It's the only reason why I think MM to open works. It's a smaller scale of villain to work with to focus on the protagonists and keep a Ganon payoff for a sequels investment.

The idea of adaptation is to sometimes take aspects from one story and craft something new entirely. I wouldn't have a "Navi" in the Movieverse at all.

Navi was just a named game tool given character but primarily developed to assist players with the transition to 3D gaming.

But it's the most interesting one to adapt and expand on.

Zelda is still a Princess but also freely studies archeology as part of trying to understand the history of Magic in Hyrule. It so happens this also on occasion involves coming across demonic artifacts.

Just because the adaptation is MM doesn't mean you need a hero with cursed masks, you don't need a child hero, you don't need time loop.

Cursed artifact before having the more common evil warlock demon king I gives more room to develop the depth for the characters of Link *and* Zelda in movieverse.

Actual concern: LoZ movie ends up a Princess Mononoke story, because if they try to adapt anything from the recent games that is the result.

Unpopular opinion but personally start with an adaptation from Majora's Mask in some manner and have a medieval Indiana Jones flick.
