But it's a lot less useful for metropolises, especially ones like LA or NYC which have toxic local political cultures and a mess of overlapping jurisdictions who hate each other.

I've always thought that Strong Towns is a useful framework for *towns*, especially the ones like the one Marohn himself lives in.

Housing is one of those areas where it's the results that count, not the methods. Houston kept local control but their local politics are downright libertarian. Tokyo has light touch zoning defined at the national level. Vienna builds public housing.

Most of the big housing reform bills to get through California in recent memory have been Wiener bills. He's brilliant and can do a lot of good in Congress.
