The word "oshi" 推し comes from the verb "osu" 推す. "Osu" 推す means "to recommend, to support, to back". When the word becomes "oshi" 推し, it becomes a noun and is used as a slang term that means "your favorite one (from a group, a team, the characters from anime/manga)".

As I understand it, an “oshi” is a vtuber that you are really particularly fond of. Think of a kpop biase, or like saying you “Stan” someone. Oshi day is the day where ppl will post about who their “oshi” is and why they are grateful for them, or enjoy their content! It’s an appreciation day
