Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, D.C. wrote a book in 2023 entitled "How We Learn to Be Brave". From the book "We all want to be brave when it counts-to be the one who steps up, leans in, and does the right thing when it matters most." An inspiration we needed. ❤

The Spotted Sandpiper is the most widespread breeding sandpiper in North America. Their be-bopping teetering foraging gait makes them one of the easiest Florida wintering shorebirds to identify. We love’em!! 🧡🤎

One of our favorite wintering species in Florida, in fact it's referred to as the Christmas bird! It was a lovely way to spend a chilly morning on the shortest day of the year observing their antics in a local residential lake!🧡

Wintering American White Pelicans are moving into interior man-made and natural fresh water bodies from the Florida coast with the recent cold snap. It gives us a lovely opportunity to watch them enjoy their winter refuges around the state. We consider them our "Christmas birds"!💚 #birds

A surprise American Bittern sighting while birding a chilly central Florida wetland at first light this morning!! As the All About Birds website states: "You'll need sharp eyes to catch sight of an American Bittern. This heron can materialize among the reeds, and disappear as quickly" #birds

Marsh Bunny in the fog Roosevelt Wetland, FL. They are most active at night, dusk and dawn, and so secretive that it's not often to be able to photograph them.💚🤎 The marsh rabbit is found throughout Florida. It's a strong swimmer so is usually found close to water. #wetlands #mammals
