Perfect travel read: Blaine Newton’s short story collection Rag Pickers. Charming, moving, expertly crafted, often funny — these stories amaze & delight. Just right for the jumbled reading on journeys: on planes, in airports, in the passenger seat of a van. Recommended.

New cycle lanes on Dallas Rd at Ross Bay. Presume that @victoria.ca will add curb dividers? Does anyone know if this treatment will continue up the hill (westbound)?

Oak Bay built one modest apartment.

Its elderly high-net-worth denizens are scrambling to find a cliff off which to jump. Or perhaps they will just wade into the Salish Sea.

On Monday we unexpectedly had to say goodbye to Kyna, our furry family member for 12 years. She talked at length as we went about our days, engaging in spirited conversations about poetics or politics or (her favourite subject) deficiencies in our attention to her needs. We will miss her deeply.

Gorgeous! (The new book, obvs not me.) Just arrived from @ucalgarypress, author copies of What is Broken Binds Us! I'm so looking forward to getting these out to readers. Poems of estrangement, addiction, ancestral discoveries, body breaks, & all sorts of recovery & peacemaking. Available Sept 15.

Oak Bay is the funniest / saddest ... e.g. Cadboro Bay Rd, wide enough in places for 6 vehicles (with only two active driving lanes) but no room for sidewalks, bike lane, boulevard.

Before jumping on the 'compulsory care' bandwagon for addictions & mental health treatment, let's ensure that everyone who wants VOLUNTARY care can find it? As a parent of a person who needed assistance for decades, I've seen the challenges of finding the right supports @ the right time. Fund them.

I’m delighted to announce that my new poetry collection, What is Broken Binds Us, will be published on September 15 by University of Calgary Press as part of their ‘Brave & Brilliant’ series.
The Press has done an amazing job of editing, layout and cover design.

Field Notes on Listening is, appropriately, a quiet book. A literary gem from 2022. @kitdobson.bsky.social 's work is characterized by close observation of people & place over time. Change & what is almost unchanging. The opening 50 pages are a braided wonder of memory & discovery. Seek out a copy.

The Fiddlehead is 80 & I've only been submitting work to it for... 50 years??? Delighted to have Blacklist in Spring'25. Thanks to editor @puneetdutt.bsky.social for advocating for the work. Tough to write but finding readers thru journals, anthologies & (this fall) the new book is heartening.
