After a difficult & cruel illness, my dad died this morning with us all at his side. World champion of sarcasm, railway enthusiast, abject socialist, Woodcraft Folk leader, and trade unionist to the end. Sleep well, you old bastard

The regional newspaper’s comments section is a bin fire of ignorance, barely disguised racism & flag-fanciers, but this deserves a medal for shitpost of the year. I’ve had hysterics laughing at this about Norfolk’s universities. Better crack on with my new module AMWN100A Marxism & Woke Nonsense

We’re going to hell in a handcart, but some 2500 years ago someone in what is now modern eastern Italy made this kyathos to mix wine in and it’s still an object of deep joy

A display of the craniometric equipment & anthropological masks at the Museum of Anthropology in Florence. Some 350 out of over 600+ in the collection were taken from living humans in Africa & India during the fascist regime of the 1930s & were displayed in what was formerly known as ‘The Race Room’

Norfolk MP Rupert Lowe's newly launched "Restore Britain" party is absolutely fascinating from an anthropological perspective. Another extremist splinter group micro-party that appeals to people worried that we don't talk enough about Anglo-Saxons, nice stately homes or Churchill to add to the list

The right wing press is pushing this scholarship-washed report this morning on the ‘demise of the white British’ from the University of Buckingham’s Centre for Heterodox Social Science, an anti-woke think-tank led by Eric Kaufman. It’s interesting to read in light of the ‘great replacement theory’

About to give a lecture to Norwich Community History Group about weird/wonderful events at Bungay Castle from the 11th century onwards. Featuring architect-come-archaeologist & Fellow of the Society of Antiquarians, Hugh Braun, the excavation director, who also excavated at Nineveh in the early 30s

Also picked up the little late Neolithic knife that I found field walking as a teenager & sent to Norwich Castle museum in December 1989 for ID. They found it in a cupboard last year & finally got round to recording it. Slow and steady wins the race *cough*

Before the war, about half the population of Vilnius was Jewish. It was long known as the Jerusalem of the North, a centre for Talmudic study. In 1941 alone, 190 000 Jewish people in Lithuania were murdered by the Nazis & there are ghosts everywhere in the Old Town
