The article reads like the first draft was written by a competent financial reporter and then a Trump-whisperer came in to massage it with pro-Trump garbage, which I'm certain is exactly what happened.

I'm finally reading Doppelgänger right now and have gotten to the part about the fusing of the far-right with the far-out. I'm not sure I can finish the book without falling into a pit of despair but you are so insightful I feel compelled to go on.
