Conflict, in general, is engaging. There has to be some kind of tension in the scene. Person vs. Environment, Person vs. Society, Person vs. Emotion. Choosing what tension you want to highlight sets the theme. Toxic Yuri is about Person vs. Person, but also Person vs. Self.
