little heron has no idea what you did
a young green heron stands on a lichen covered branch and stares face on at the viewer. they have just grown out of most of their long wispy grey baby fluff aside from the bit on the very top of their head which is being blown to the right in a lovely comb over. their chest is a mix of reddish brown and light colored feathers forming streaks. their belly is fluffy and bright white. their legs are a pale yellow. they stare with bright yellow eyes on either side of a long orange beak

5 green herons in a nest as the sun rises. there are 2 adults and 3 fluffy grey chicks. the front chick has their beak wide open and neck extended so you can see in there. it looks like they are singing or perhaps yelling (they were yawning). parents look bedraggled from just getting chomped on a bunch. the other two chicks are just sitting on the left side of the neat looking small. they are surrounded by green leaves and warm light

a side view of the green heron nest, with big heron turned away from the camera and one baby sitting upright front and center. behind the front chick the another can be seen chomping their yellow beak onto moms yellow leg (i think, its kind of hard to tell whos leg it is)

hey whats going on back there??
a green heron sitting on a nest filled with two visible fluffy grey potatoes (baby herons). mom heron is turning over her shoulder as if to see what mischief the tiny gremlins have gotten up to. one of them is nuzzled up against her with their bright yellow beak tucked into her feathers. the other is front and center with beak wide open presumably causing a ruckus

it looks pretty tough raising 3 tiny monsters set on stabbing you in the face at any opportunity
an adult green heron sitting on their nest made of lichen covered sticks in a scruffy tree covered in bright green leaves as seen through an opening in the leaves. under them are 3 fluffy grey chicks. ones face can be seen squished on the left side, one has their back to the camera and is sitting up and the thirds yellow beak is just visible under parent heron wings on the right. parent heron is mostly loafed with their beak wide open and pointed upward in what may be an exasperated yell from dealing with 3 tiny fluffy terrors or perhaps it is just a yawn. hard to say

a green heron with wings spread wide as they stand on some bright green lily pads in a pond an iris weevil looking up over the edge of a purple tipped iris bud that is perpendicular to the ground. only their front half is visible so they look like they’re standing behind a matte green bar in some sort of extremely green drinking establishment. their head and long snout are black with large black eyes protruding from the sides of their head. their body is comparatively large and light brown. the bottoms of their two feet sat up on the bud/bar are bright white a single white flower hangs down from from a curved pink stem. the center is bright yellow and the leaves are green with splotches of red making them look like the patterning on a trout. they are nestled among some other low plants and trout lilies, all green though, it is the only flower visible a bright yellow pine warbler stands on a smooth barked tree limb surrounded by green needles. they have a tiny black beak that is pointed up slightly as they take in their surroundings. their head and chest are almost entirely yellow with flecks of black. they have black and white banding on their wings. the bottom of their feet are slightly visible and are yellow while the rest of their leg is black

happy toad tuesday!
a small brown american toad sitting on the forest floor amongst dirt and leaves and little sticks. they are facing to the left of frame and one of their black and gold eyes is visible. they are quite round and bumpy with a classic toad frown.

green heron will not comply
a green heron looking directly at the camera with an intense expression. their dark beak which appears to be frowning from this angle has a bright yellow eye on either side of it. under their beak is a capital i shape in white feathers. their round body is mostly a deep reddish brown with wings. they also have a little blue cap on top of their head. they are standing in front of some green foliage with both large orange feet on a lichen covered branch. there is a stick slightly out of focus in the foreground. i believe they were looking at that and not at me since they had just spent quite some time trying to pry other sticks off the branches

i watched this pair of green herons build a nest together and it was absolutely adorable. the one would stand nearby as the other walked through the branches testing various sticks to see if they would break loose with a bit of determined chomping
a green heron stands on a scraggly bare branch and reaches towards a twig at the end of the branch. their beak is open and long reddish brown neck fully extended. their orange legs grip onto the branch. on a farther back branch another green heron stands with back turned showing only their iridescent blue wing feathers and their orange legs beneath them. there are many green leaves on neighboring trees

look at this tall chicken
a green heron standing on some scruffy green grass spotted with little yellow and pink flowers. they have their head up and neck extended so they are quite tall. on their face they have two tufts of reddish brown feathers sticking out from either side. they are facing the camera showing off their white lines running down their reddish brown throat. they look a bit silly with their bright yellow eyes and little face tufts. i believe they were trying to intimidate a red winged blackbird haha

the fearsome hunter emerges victorious with their prize!
a green heron in some low green water with both wings up. in their beak is a large green lily pad which they have just bravely pulled up from the water, not a fish. their wings are a deep blueish green with each feather outlined in gold. their head has a little green slicked back crest. their eyes are lined in bright yellow that extends to the base of their long thin black beak. their neck is russet brown with white lines running down it. their reflection can be seen in the water

hello everyone!
an iris weevil peers out from between the petals of an iris flower. they are looking directly at the camera with their large black eyes. their long snout is obscured by the edge of a petal. they look like they are peaking out through the gap as if to see what i am doing. the petals are green on the bottom and light purple on the top, a yellow stripe runs down the center of one of them. the weevil is mostly light brown and one set of legs can be seen over the top of the petal

a beautiful grack
a grackle pointing their long black beak to the sky in profile. their head is many shades of blue and purple surrounding their bright yellow eye. the rest of their body is a dark greenish brown oil slick rainbow. they are standing in some fresh mulch among many green plant shoots

ive spent a lot of time at the chicago botanic gardens over the years and seen flowers from all over the world but my favorite one they have is still the trout lily
a single white flower hangs down from from a curved pink stem. the center is bright yellow and the leaves are green with splotches of red making them look like the patterning on a trout. they are nestled among some other low plants and trout lilies, all green though, it is the only flower visible

its not every day you get a picture of 2 teals, 1 large swimming snake, and 1 large frog all in one shot lmfao
in the foreground out of focus are two blue winged teals swimming in a pond. behind them in the water is a red and beige snake swimming parallel to the teals, both towards the left of the frame. the snake appears to be rather large and long though only their head and a bit of their back is visible. then behind the snake in a patch of green muck is the head of a large frog peaking out.

my first warbler of the season! this bright little pine warbler was making their obligatory stop off at this conifer before zooming off in search of other year round green pastures
