To achieve physical effect it must combine this "universal fluid" (an elemental substrate of existence) with the "animalized fluid" emitted by a living person, known as a medium.

Or perhaps what we "see" may be "accurate," but has no time tag attached, "when" timing matters significantly for meaning. Like if a fragment from 50 years in the future flashed across our mind on a random day, and we just think it's nonsensical

With this in mind, perhaps things can and do indeed function in forms of short-term and long-term "contracts" (for lack of a better word)
