Two wasp-like creatures in a snowy landscape, one landed and one mid-flight. Each had long slender wings, a single prominent almond-shaped composite eye. Their heads end in a little pointy upward tip and two short mandibles, but their most bizarre part is the abdomen, curled up and forward on a long mid-segment. In this upturned position, the abdomen has a downward pointy tip, where two jaw-like parts, joined by evenly spaced vertical lines, hinge. Two long tubes protrude forward along the sides, and from its top emerges a short neck with a sharply triangular head with a jaw full of sharp shark-like teeth. The creature that is mid-flight has its abdomen folded and straightened back.

Things to be conscious of, I: leaving space above AND below the pupil This makes the eye look startled or tense (possibly reducing spooky factor) and/or like it's pupil is adjusted to a bright light - but then why don't we see anything except for the eyes? Things to be conscious or, II: shading More natural, but less uncanny. Suggests that the scene is better lit and/or the viewer is adjusted to the darkness, which contradicts the image disembodied eyes in the darkness a bit Consider the shadow of the invisible eyelids when shading - in a neutral expression that's a slight shadow on top Deform and shade to add depth and suggest 3D silhouettes Things to be conscious of, III: symmetry More natural and expressive, but therefore possibly less uncanny Consider breaking vertical symmetry to suggest invisible face expressions Great for drama - drown a part of the face in shadows and have eyes like this suggesting an ambiguous, but possibly intense emotion
