To my blue sky pocket friends. I hope this might brighten your Friday. This is my official teachers photo. I teach in a middle school #Woodshop #woodworking.

I haven't left you, I've just been really, really busy and enjoying every second of it.

Yes, I was fishing and will be again here shortly. It's my absolute favorite place to be.

Good morning from church.

Doing work in my classroom before school starts. This is a backpack/laptop cubby.

Still not done, Oak facing, sand and stain. I'll be adding a logo to the center between the two laptop cubbies. I'm also going to add small shelf's to hold students work on.

Classroom 603 is the place to be!

We went camping, had a good 3 days. About an hour ago we had a small juvenile brown bear come into the camp. He was after our tuff box with food in it. I came around the tent and hit him with a tea kettle. He charged and my buddy shot the ground and the bear fled. We're heading home safe and sound.

I'm going to leave this like this for a few weeks, after the new roots start showing(red) I will cut this branch in teal and have an exact copy of the host tree.

I hope that helps,if not I'm here for help.
July 9, 2025 at 1:51 PM
So green leaves like they are growing normally. The screwdriver handle is the stick. Green tape is where I peeled the bark. Roots will grow over time in the ball shown in red.

Then I'll cut (in purple)well below the new rootball.

Then plant just like new under the yellow.

Ta-da new tree.
July 9, 2025 at 1:47 PM
I cut the outer layer of the tree. I cut all the way to the cambium layer. You can remove that layer as well. The roots will grow from the top of where I cut it.

The root ball grew out of where I cut it. You can see the stick below the root ball. This is called air layering.
July 9, 2025 at 4:25 AM
What do you mean you need property I sample from every one of these trees on this bench. The only other sample tree is the big stumpy in the ground.
July 8, 2025 at 8:35 PM
Done properly, in a few weeks you will see roots growing inside the ball. Cut below the root ball for an added stick for better planting.

Ta-da One tree now becomes two. This one's a little Japanese maple that I had sampled.
July 8, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Then I brush on rooting powder on the area and then I wrap the rooting ball around the tree and then zip tie it so it stays closed. I finally wrap it in aluminum foil making sure to leave the top open so that water can get in there. I wrap it in foil to make a rooting dark area.
July 8, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Now I spray the area with water, keep this wet throughout this entire process. Use an absolutely sharp knife to remove that outer layer of the tree.
July 8, 2025 at 8:15 PM
This is LOOOSE spagnum Moss and vermiculite. Make sure you don't pack this thing full because the roots will have nowhere to go when they start growing. But ensure you soak all of this in water just to get as much water in there as possible.
July 8, 2025 at 8:15 PM
To better explain this operation I added tape to my screw driver. This is what's happening on the inside.
July 8, 2025 at 8:15 PM
I'm going to pick a spot between the nodes(leaves) to cut the outer layer of the tree. I'm going to mark and cut on these lines.
July 8, 2025 at 8:15 PM
So @hawkstalkers.bsky.social I said I'd tell ya how to make more trees from trees. Long thread.

So I wanna get rid of this branch that grew out of the front of the trunk. The splitting you see at the base is from growing.

I'm going to get a tree from this process.

And the BarCase is done. #woodworking #upcycle

From TV hutch to BarCase. I think it fits the room nicely. Plus, more sippy sippy showing...

It's pine painted black. The glass I've been holding on to forever. I think it works here.
