Definitely leave the important narrative stuff to the humans though.

I could see AI dialogue being interesting is ambient or combat dialogue. It'd be neat if you did a cool combo or stole something and an NPC could comment on it specifically beyond "Wow! Nice attack!" or "Put that back!". It could also solve the problem of combat dialogue becoming repetitive.
