UNSEASONABLY-WARM DECEMBER SUNDAY: The bright green of the fraser fir seedlings "pop" in an otherwise drab winter landscape. This is my small tree farm located immediately west of my implement building.

I limit this Iowa native on my land, although it is quite good for wildlife food and habitat. Honey locust trees (Gleditsia triacanthos) have dense clusters of large thorns down their trunks/lower branches. The trees evolved to protect the trees from the hungry ravages of Pleistocene megafauna.
