The unfortunate thing about long running franchises is people become convinced that anything that strays from the formula that was there when they started playing is horrible. Metroid is particularly bad about that bc its fans think anything that isn't another version of Super is automatically trash

A quick look at the other noms tells me they only really recognize games associated with other properties (with Helldivers being a weird exception). In other words, they don't respect the medium and are thus a terrible judge of it.
