Thrilled (and honored!) that Prof. Cat Beck from Hamilton College visited me at @au.dk during her sabbatical in Cologne. Cat and I have worked in Turkana, specifically on the HSPDP Lake Turkana drill core, for many years. It was great to catch up and talk about fun new things!

We’re in Azerbaijan for field work! I’m collecting biomarker samples from a beautiful sediment sequence in the Azykh cave, where hominins lived over hundreds of thousands of years (we think, lol 😝). Downright honored to be a part of this team in this stunning landscape.

I've started my long journey to AGU23! I'll be presenting two projects on African paleoclimate using leaf wax isotopes (classic me 🙄).

We also remove these cycles to address the other sources of climate trends in the region, highlighting the potential influence from SST gradients and other secular drivers, but also even lower frequency orbital cycles

We find prominent 400-kyr and 1-Myr cycles present in the δDprecip record that align well with the same periodicities in low-latitude insolation, indicating strong influence from low-frequency orbital cycles over northeast Africa (where the waxes are sourced from)

We present new #leafwax hydrogen and carbon isotope records from the sapropel layers in the eastern Mediterranean going back to 4.5 million years ago
