but yea, ur question has inspired a weird fantasy scenario for me, where media dubbed into english can have 2 versions, one american, and the other british, and they function as distcrete translations, and ppl would be comparing the 2 and arguing wc is better. very entertaining.

media ppl dont cater much to unstandardized varieties bc theyre (1) highly regional, (2) low prestige, and (3) tend to exist in diglossia with the actually standardized varieties, ie, speakers of minority varieties tend to already understand and use general american and received pronunciation

i'd guess it's because the 2 principal standards of english have such a strong degree of mutual intelligibility
thats standards, not varieties: i think u could easily convince a non-english speaker that scots, the aussie basilect, and cajun are entirely different languages

i think the underrated issue here is that most X users who arent groypers are capable of creating walled gardens of content w/ their mutuals
but i think theres a tangible danger in the cumulative effect that being in such a groypdominated epistemic chamber can have on the normies. its worrying.

my issue is, like, theres a lot of stuff that he says that i think is too dumb even for him to unironically believe ... but at the same time, thinking like that, ur always run the risk of underestimating his stupidity (learned my lesson in 2022) and overestimating his lucidity
