Hehe. My church the symbols of the Apostles on the wall behind the pulpit and I guess they had a little booklet explaining who each one represented or something.

In fact it was these exact versions, I think. The only other one I remember is the St. Andrew's Cross.

Definitely an owl. Looks like that's a somewhat typical Egyptian depiction. (I have no idea when or where these images are from, Google has been unhelpful in that respect. But the focused features are notably similar.)

Okay, that's two different things.
The diagram in the comic is a simple example of a hydraulic system. She's not pouring, she's pressing down a small plunger which lifts a large weight.
The "ruina montium" technique is a different application of hydraulic principles to break rock.
