And in Book 2, I used the "Start of Darkness" tag (i.e. the villain origin story tag). Those who spotted it probably assume that it's referring to William's story, or even Henry and Fazbear's, making them overlook the main characters' slow transformation and descent.

and while some major characters did indeed die, they were brought back (this is FNAF, after all) and given a happy ending without making it feel too much of a Deus ex Machina.
