London innit!

Man on bike, seeking out London's elusive no-go zones (only Twitter knows where they be); laughing at architecture; bemoaning poor maintenance; delighting in improvised repairs. Also roaming the planning portals. #london #planning #cycling
I'll be checking out those films. Looks like a great resource.

Not recently. Firstly, OTHER THINGS had to be done. Secondly, returning from a funeral, my handlebar stem snapped (well, it is 45 years old). I landed on my shoulder, and am still a bit sore. It could have been a lot worse though. Cycling will resume soon.

I was wondering what had happened to you. Welcome back!

":::ERROR::: I am no longer supported since the most recent OS update. I have ordered a replacement refrigerator, you're welcome!"

My father (generally conservative, WWII vet) used to point to the Tory Party conference as proof that wisdom doesn't come with age.

Reform politicians are 99% bananas. True fact!

I expect they are basing all this on a mix of folk traditions, the bible, and perceived common sense.

Anyway, how would those studies work?

Rely on the school's own measurements? No!

Devise robust independent test? Torturing children in a controlled setting would be somewhat unethical.

My grandfather used to say "There's nothing so bad that the Daily Express can't make it worse"*. Same goes for X.

[*This was in the 50s, when the Express wasn't so awful.]

Nigel was saying exactly the same things. Someone should ask him, was he also being paid or does he do being a Russian asset for free?

Most of the tea ends up in your beard?

Good point. That's got to be the publisher's defence whenever it is accused of misrepresentation.

I haven't read it (even in passing) for years, but judging by the headlines that pop up hereabouts, that's quite likely.

Look at the owner and the editor!

Described in the article as a "quality British newspaper".

Ha!
October 30, 2025 at 9:11 AM
It would, but has it ever?

But helmets are cool! When it comes to cycle helmets, that's about as near to empirical as it gets.

(But if they were, it would be self-evident)

See what happened in the UK with cannabis. They allowed it onto the market only when the fun bit was removed.

Enjoyment is the sole unacceptable side-effect.

Why don't you explicitly and repeatedly caveat your piece accordingly?

She should be pleased. The social contract is this: in return for tolerating black and brown faces in TV ads, we won't be expected to deal with racism in the real world.

It's a good deal for whites.

And, mainly, the people who absorb the talking points amplified and transmitted via the broadcast media.

That's all of us, sadly.

I thought it was odd that Corbyn was blamed for the pro-Brexit vote in South Wales - when the most visible representation of the EC in that region was the Kinnock family. Perhaps they had something to do with it.

Who shall be blamed now?

As with Blunkett's ID card legislation, there's always a clause. In that case it began (something like) "if, in the view of the Secretary of State..."

Nobody's home and happiness should hang on the deranged views of Blunkett, nor those of any Home Secretary since.

The party of family values.

That's a great point. There would hardly be a church left it London were it not for the immigrants who sustain those communities.

If white nationalists are so worried about their Christian culture, they might consider going to church.

My Brexity (then) MP promised no change in status for EU citizens. Obviously a lie, but surely the current government could easily do something to give ILR people security.

Offer them citizenship.
October 20, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Of course it's a thing. I mention it because I've noticed that it's a regular talking point among racists, who feel it gives them permission to air their own views.
