Female wood duck with 14 ducklings next to a hedge in the Royal Hobart Botanical Gardens, Tasmania. Wood ducks almost always seem to be in pairs but today this female was by herself. A lone male wood duck was sitting out of sight at a fountain on the other side of the hedge.

The rocks of here were once connected to the Grand Canyon 14000km (8500 miles) away. Tasmanian Aboriginals lived here

If a tree falls in the forest...
A very large tree lies across a lonely road in The Tarkine, NW Tasmania. The tree is newly fallen (as often) in the calm weather after rain & very strong wind. It will take more than a worker with a chainsaw to clear this & take time to get a bulldozer or a tractor.

The quiet and calm of a mid winter evening in Tasmania in the Roaring Forties at the bottom of the world. Kunanyi/Mt Wellington is backlit by the afterglow of a sunset in an almost cloudless sky. Light is reflected off the calm water of the River Derwent.

It is pretty but is very northern hemisphere in spirit for a very southern land.
