lokryn-merkle-tree is the foundation of Field Notes, our tamper-evident logging product.

Open-sourcing the building blocks as we build:
→ merkle-tree (now)
→ compliance-log-schema (next week)
→ mcp-log (coming)

Field Notes: Jan 15th.
January 7, 2026 at 1:00 PM
The Lokryn stack:

1. compliance-log-schema → what to log
2. merkle-tree → tamper-evidence
3. mcp-log → capture MCP calls
4. Field Notes → store & query

Open source foundations. Product on top.

Field Notes: Jan 15th.

Tracking affiliate sales in a spreadsheet you update monthly?

What if you knew the moment a code converted — and your affiliate did too?

Affiliate Ping. Real-time alerts. Unlimited codes.

Your influencer just made you a sale.

They don't know. You don't know. The spreadsheet won't update until next week.

Affiliate Ping fixes that. Real-time alerts to Email and Slack the moment a discount code converts.

App crashed. Server restarted. Chain broken?

Nope.

Get last hash from DB, resume the chain. Recovery is one query away.

Why protobuf for compliance logs?

→ Strict schema = can't log garbage
→ Binary = smaller than JSON
→ Generated code = type safety
→ Language agnostic

JSON is flexible. Compliance needs structure.

Process 1000 records. Store one hash. Verify the whole batch instantly.

That's a merkle root.

Match = untampered
Mismatch = something changed

Your data: standard Parquet on S3.

No proprietary format. No lock-in.

Outgrow DuckLake? Migrate to Iceberg or Databricks without rewriting.

Write logs once. Export to:

→ AWS Security Lake (OCSF)
→ Datadog
→ Splunk
→ Elastic
→ Microsoft Sentinel

No format translation. Pre-computed export fields.

Every record points to the previous one.

Change any record in the middle? The chain breaks. We know exactly where.

Same principle that secures Bitcoin.

"What did this table look like last Tuesday?"

Time travel queries on S3. No extra setup. Just works.

SOC2 auditors are starting to ask about AI agent logs.

Most teams: "We're logging... something?"

No standard exists for MCP audit trails. So we made one.

Storing audit logs in a database?

Anyone with DB access can edit history.

Hash chaining fixes that. Every record links to the previous. Break the chain, we know.

Setting up a data lakehouse:

→ YAML (Spark)
→ YAML (Hive)
→ IAM policies
→ Glue crawlers
→ Stack traces

3 days later, still no SELECT *

Or: one container, 5 min, done.

DuckLake Container is live on AWS Marketplace.

A data lakehouse in one container:
→ PostgreSQL 17 + DuckDB
→ Parquet on S3
→ ACID transactions, time travel
→ 5 min setup, $0.05/hr

No Spark. No Hive. No YAML hell.
