Basically, look up reputable brands, do your research, and you won't have this problem.

Yeah, but with just a crappy seal, it can still attenuate it if it's made out of conductive fabric. I don't even need to fully close my bag before my Bluetooth and cell service start to drop out.

The wavelengths blocked is a function of the size of the holes in the mesh. If the hole is less than half a wavelength, it begins to attenuate the signal. Most Faraday bags are essentially metallic fabric, with extremely small holes a fraction of a millimeter.
