What’s brown now will be green in 6 months. Always great meeting with the land managers who make real habitat improvements on the ground. Excited for fen season 2025!

The Michigan bog grasshopper can’t sing or fly. It’s special because it’s the only endemic species of grasshopper in the state. Found within high quality jack pine bogs in the northern lower peninsula.

The title of rarest of rare species in Michigan belongs to the Poweshiek skipperling, found in just a couple prairie fens of the highest quality in the country.

Rare moths often rely on rare plants. This gal is the blazing star borer, found mostly in wet to dry prairie remnants in the Midwest. Have to stay up late to find the good stuff.
