Doing a PhD on labour in 20th C. rural Scotland
In that way I suppose Orange Book Lib Dems should immediately gain from that demographic. However, I think it's more likely there'll be a protracted death and membership bleed from the Conservative party over the next decade

The biggest question is what will happen to One Nation Conservativism. Already the Thatcherite tradition has seemingly been taken on by Reform, in the same way Labour absorbed Radical Liberalism.

Tbf I'm a bit hyper-aware of it after being in Falkirk so could have picked folk up wrong. Still no place for the far right at pittodrie

Biggest concern was bits of the crowd chanting 'send them home'. Petered out quick enough mind

Aye second half was crying out for Pape's chaos. Lb is a major weakness, we'll see how gyamfi gets on once fit.

I will clarify though, the accusations were utilised against Cowan's support of free trade as opposed to anything else
July 18, 2025 at 2:22 PM
To make this go full circle, Cowan was actually accused by Unionists of being a foreign agent during the 1910 general elections.

His election campaign in 2022 and his attachment to a retrenched British nationalism makes this unsurprising. It will make Renfrew a big target for reform next year with politics still very localised there

I can't comment on the fishing as that wasn't mentioned — other than smoked fish traditionally being a staple protein source.

Cattle grazing is stationary. Although I should add that beef production was very much a product of modernity in Japan — pre 19th c. meat consumption was taboo and not done.

Point three makes an interesting counterpoint to the recent changes in inheritance tax. The 1918 manifesto is much more direct in addressing land justice as opposed to the blunt monetary rises implemented by Reeves.

It is also very much a manifesto built on compromise — accommodating Georgists, cofting interests, Marxists and modernisers.

Perhaps unsurprisingly you can pick out strands that later governments would adopt and implement, i.e. twenty first century community buyouts resembles point 11
