they’re essentially referring to state level policies in the US and national level policies in Europe

Yeah it’s entirely “Morgan McSweeney spends too much time on X.com”

The argument as I understand it goes “why should we provide VAT exemptions on BMW purchases?” and my ideal solution to this would be eliminating VAT exemptions on BMW purchases rather than banning them.

You know the economist is a British publication where the minimum wage has risen significantly every year right?

Worse than Truss?

You thought Bardella would be winning by a bigger margin?

that guy has some tedious bit about pretending to be some sort of foreigner it's all a waste of time

Tbf Boston is actually quite boring (I say this as someone who briefly lived there)

I think you’d be surprised by how hostile American liberals are to the approximate analogue of Muslims refusing to vote for Biden/Harris over Palestine.

I personally lean towards “if there’s a binary choice always pick the even marginally better option”.

Also the UK and Ireland are part of a common travel area (essentially a mini-Schengen) so Ireland-UK flights are treated as domestic and don’t require passport control.

For Finkelstein and a lot of right leaning boomers I think the thought process is “woke = bad” thus “woke right = bad right” which is of course stupid but it’s not like I expect coherent thought from the British right
November 12, 2025 at 10:22 AM
Yeah it’s like, someone who has ever made a domestic-to-international transfer involving changing terminals in eg. JFK will tell you upfront that the notion of only giving yourself 90 minutes to do it in is brave at best

I believe the basic fare is inclusive of taxes, I’ve certainly flown on their sub-€20 flights loads of times and as a stubborn guy who is happy with flying backpack only and random seat allocation it’s fine
November 11, 2025 at 3:42 PM
as if Harris is better

32" isn't that large, you should definitely be able to fit it in your boot possibly without folding the rear seats.

I don’t think there’s a real alternative to per mile charging for EV users, unless we don’t care about maintaining the link to consumption that fuel duty has.
November 6, 2025 at 10:39 AM
Indeed, but Spain is older and lower-fertility than Poland
November 5, 2025 at 4:10 PM
Only makes it more impressive that Polish GDP is growing faster than Spain because Spain is massively helped by a growing population
November 5, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Yeah the IMF categorisation is quite silly. Greece is the second poorest country in the EU but counts as an advanced economy.
November 5, 2025 at 10:24 AM
Yes, the IMF doesn’t count Poland as an advanced economy but it is forecast to grow faster than Spain.
November 5, 2025 at 9:42 AM
I believe Europe’s fastest growing economy is Poland lol
November 5, 2025 at 9:35 AM
Well the model's output was accurate to the cutoff in the data it was trained with which seems fine to me

Difference is image generation. Gemini would likely do fine with text too.

Is this an argument are no other extremely wealthy Brits in Dubai, Monaco, etc or that they’ve all already left and there’s none left?
November 2, 2025 at 9:19 AM
The Dysons and Storonsky generally don’t, right? I think it’s worth having a solution to the fact that we are fundamentally uncompetitive for our own wealthy to stay because we have a capital gains tax and eg. Dubai doesn’t.
