I understand, and I agree mostly. The core problem is that praising Newsom can signal acceptance for his views about trans people and the unhoused, and then he’ll move on to sacrifice other groups, too. And we can’t risk letting that shift happen.

I agree that we should have more governors opposing Trump, but opposition can feel empty when the person pushing it is willing to side with oppressors. It needs to be backed up by a strong commitment to protecting vulnerable people.

What does that have to do with what I said? Trust me I’m afraid for myself and the people I love every day.
