My issue with this approach though is that Trump's comments about this being done to protect Christians is overly simplistic and feeds into this fable that he is a defender of the Christian faith especially since his general amorality is an affront to the tenets of the Faith

As a Nigerian, I will offer a measured and gracious perspective. There is a legitimate issue in parts of Northern Nigeria and this particular effort was apparently conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian government.

That's why they are so eager to embrace celebrities - even C and D-listers who claim to be Christian. The embrace of Russell Brand and now Nikki Minaj are recent examples of this phenomenon.

I don't remember who said something along the lines that American Evangelicals have an inferiority complex that makes them eager to be acknowledged and accepted by the 'culture' - the same culture that they denigrate as evil and ungodly.
