As someone from Puerto Rico something people don't mention is that yes statehood had the most votes but if you count people who left the ballot empty less than 50% of the voters went for Statehood... BUT of course I personally say that, I'm in the minority who wants PR independence. I'm biased.

Considering the decks I play (Tear, Paleo, Horus) you'd hate me with a passion lol
I've only booted up casual like 3 times and it felt the same, but, that was years ago so if that's changed then that's great.

My only recommendation is to NOT play Modern YGO or Master Duel. I personally love it deeply but it's nothing like what it used to be. Other people are recommending old games and I second that, my favorite is Duelist of the Roses but that game isn't Yugioh TCG tho.
