Rs seemed close to killing the filibuster. That scenario keeps Dems’ hands clean. It also untethers the GOP to do a bunch of scary shit, but that’s always a possibility right? They can kill the filibuster anytime.

What’s fun is that 8 Dems effectively made the filibuster moot, as every future “negotiation” will start with all parties knowing that Dems will fold eventually, but Dems will still be shackled by the filibuster when they regain the majority. A lose-lose! Thank you Dems!

By that logic why not kill the filibuster and send Dems home until 2028?
The filibuster exists to force some negotiation. The GOP refused to negotiate, 8 Dems gave in, now the filibuster is moot. But since it still technically exists, Dems will still be shackled by it when we regain the majority.

I don’t think the GOP would have budged on the ACA premiums. But I think Dems should have held their ground and forced the GOP to either end the filibuster or come up with some other meaningful concession. Otherwise, why are the Dems there? What is the point?

I imagine they do this because it’s possible he was just blinking. We all have pictures of ourselves with eyes closed when we were fully awake for this reason.
